Creating extra pallet capacity for “The Jewellery Channel” in Southall with used racking

Locators recently completed a compact but high-impact warehouse upgrade for The Jewellery Channel in Southall, West London. The brief was straightforward and familiar to many growing businesses. The customer needed more pallet spaces inside an already congested warehouse and they needed it on a tight budget. There was no need for wholesale reconfiguration or extended downtime. They simply wanted safe, reliable capacity fast.

Our solution was to install standalone bays at the ends of existing runs using good quality used pallet racking sourced from a trusted trade supplier. This approach delivered new storage positions quickly, safely and cost-effectively, without compromising day-to-day operations.

What We Provided The Jewellery Channel:

Standalone Bays

The challenge we faced

Limited Space

The warehouse was running at capacity with little room for expansion, and widening aisles or adding new runs would have hindered MHE movements.

Budget constraints

As with many operators in today’s climate, the client needed a smart solution that made the most of what they already had.

Minimal Disruption

Brief & Constraints

The Jewellery Company in Southall needed additional pallet spaces in an already congested warehouse and on a limited budget.

Agreed Solution

Install standalone bays at the ends of the runs using good used rack sourced from a trusted trade supplier.

Installation

Used racking was installed as shown in the supplied images, providing the agreed standalone bays at the run ends.

Outcome & Next Step

This is a new account for us and a foot in the door for a potential warehouse move in the near future.

Value -led specification with used racking

To stretch the budget without compromising safety, we selected used racking in excellent condition from a long-standing trade partner. All components were inspected for straightness, corrosion, damage and compatibility, and were supplied ready for installation with appropriate load data. Matching the beam pitch to the rest of the installation kept handling consistent and intuitive for operators.

Planned installation around Live operations

We scheduled deliveries and works to suit shift patterns and peak picking windows. Bays were assembled, levelled, fixed and tagged with loading notices. Where needed, we added protection at exposure points to safeguard uprights in high-traffic areas.

Standalone end bays for quick gains

Installing standalone bays at the ends of the runs provided immediate capacity uplift. This tactic preserves existing aisle widths and traffic routes, avoids major re-design or decanting stock, delivers extra locations exactly where the team already works and keeps costs low while still allowing future reconfiguration

Our Approach

Rapid, low-disruption install

The project was completed around live operations, keeping the warehouse productive throughout.

More pallet positions where they are most useful

Those end-of-run bays unlocked capacity that had previously been overlooked, helping to relieve pressure on bulk and fast-moving lines.

Clear value for money

Using vetted, quality used racking maximised the client’s budget while meeting safety and performance requirements.

Sustainable choice

Extending the life of durable equipment reduces embodied carbon compared with buying new, supporting corporate sustainability goals.

Platform for future growth

This is a new account for Locators and a strong first step in supporting The Jewellery Company, including a potential warehouse move in the near future.
