Background & Brief<\/h2>

Premier Goldberg have recently established their first site in Langley and, with two warehouses covering an area of 53,000 square feet, it is more than double the size of the old site. Before moving to the new site, Premier Goldberg asked their materials handling and storage systems partner Locators Ltd to make a proposal for a range of cantilever racking in the new warehouses and recommendations for a new fleet of materials handling equipment.<\/p>\n

Locators proposed a combination of 4-high cantilever racking for long packs of timber in phase 1 and then, for phase 2, shorter sections of cantilever racking for storage of sheet materials. Through careful planning and design, the racking systems were arranged to maximise the storage capacity of the warehouses and allow for efficient loading and unloading.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Solution<\/h2>

The recommendation for the forklift fleet in phase 1 was four Combilift CB4000 LPG-powered multidirectional counterbalance trucks which are well suited for handling the long loads and maximising warehouse space. Three new Toyota Tonero 8FGJF35 gas forklifts were proposed for phase 2 for moving the smaller sheet products and loading lorries. The new Toyota trucks have been supplied with the award-winning Toyota I_Site Fleet Manager system which provides access control, impact sensors and pre-op checks. These features allow Premier Goldberg to monitor fleet utilisation, reduce truck, racking and product damage, improve Health & Safety and increase uptime through proper forklift checks.<\/p>\n

Phase Two - Background & Brief<\/h2>

Leading timber supplier Premier Goldberg\u2019s Langley branch is perfectly located to service the whole of central London and the South East. Their trade counter welcomes pre-arranged appointments to collect and is managed by a team of experienced and dedicated colleagues.<\/p>\n

Locators are considered a trusted partner in Premier Goldberg\u2019s business and had previous experience working on their newer Langley site. Covering 53,000 square feet, it\u2019s more than double the size of their previous sites. We had installed cantilever racking for this ongoing project to accommodate long\/sheet pack timber loads. Used in conjunction with this, we provided Combilift multi-directional trucks and Toyota 8FGJF35 LPG counterbalance forklifts.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Phase Two - Solution<\/h2>

Due to the growing success of Premier Goldberg, expansion was inevitable. Upon returning to their site, Locators were asked to help optimise and alter storage operations in their second unit. As more floor space for bulk stacking was required, more than half of the installed cantilever racking had to be removed. However, wherever possible, Premier Goldberg wanted to reduce the number of rack storage locations that would potentially be lost.<\/p>\n

We proposed a number of ideas on how they could best re-use the dismantled rack in other areas of the building. Despite there being little remaining space available, we managed to maintain over 60% of the lost storage locations. This was achieved through reconfiguring and repositioning the racks. This included cutting some of the heavy-duty I-section uprights down in height, on-site.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
